Malay Dhamelia

Assistant Professor of Design

Malay holds a B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from NIT Surat, Masters in Interaction Design and PhD from IIT Bombay. His doctoral thesis analyses gameplay experiences and builds a theory of fun relevant to board games, the design of gamification, and playful interactions. He has contributed to international venues like DiGRA, CHIPlay, ISAGA, and has also written for magazines like The Hindu Frontline and Teacher Plus.

Shaped by the culture of making, and design research, he approaches technology from critical and playful lenses. He works with ludic interactions, interactive arts, and meaning-making through interactions. His research interests include game design, philosophy of technology, and design theories. While waiting and commuting, he likes to observe and engage with human relationships, co-production, and interactions with technology and games.
